Kingsport, Tennessee-based Eastman, recently announced the completion of its tertiary amine capacity expansion at its manufacturing sites in Ghent, Belgium, and Pace, Florida.

The company said the Ghent expansion resulted in a capacity boost, while the Pace expansion created the largest tertiary amine unit, according to a Feb. 3 press release published by Business Wire.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in tertiary amine demand, partially due to structural changes in consumer habits related to the global pandemic and are committed to serving our customers and meeting global consumer needs,” Robert Ash, Eastman product director for care additives, said in the release. “I want to thank our customers for their patience and partnership over the past year as we executed these expansions.”

Ash also praised the company’s engineering staff and manufacturing teams for finishing projects at a rapid pace during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s an impressive achievement that illustrates Eastman’s commitment to safety and our high level of engineering expertise,” he said in the release.

Tertiary amines help home-care products and other industrial applications become effective; the release stated.

“These significant investments show Eastman’s strong commitment to our home and personal care customers,” Ash said in the release. “We are one of the world’s leading producers of tertiary amines and take this leadership role seriously, and we are committed to constantly improving our level of service. These expansions will greatly improve our reliability and allow us to meet further customer demand.”

With a global workforce of nearly 14,000 and a customer across 100 countries, Eastman earned nearly $11 billion in 2021, according to the release.
