Tencent 'excited' to acquire Turtle Rock Studios

China-based company, Tencent Holdings Ltd. announced Dec. 17 the acquisition of Turtle Rock Studios parent company Slamfire Inc, Business Wire reported.

Turtle Rock Studios and Slamfire Inc. will continue to operate out of Lake Forest, California, while its existing team will continue to run all studio operations and productions, according to Business Wire. 

“We are all looking forward to joining the Tencent family of studios,” said Steve Goldstein, president and general manager of Turtle Rock Studios. “Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit.”

The collaboration between the two companies will be led by Turtle Rock Studios co-founders Phil Robb and Chris Ashton.

The new acquisition will not affect any of Turtle Rock Studios' popular action games, Back 4 Blood and Left 4 Dead, according to Business Wire. 

Turtle Rock Studios, Inc. is an award-winning game development studio best known for creating multiplayer action games Back 4 Blood, Evolve, and Left 4 Dead through its partnership with Warner Bro. Games. 

Tencent was founded in 1998 and uses technology to enrich the lives of internet users through its communication and social services, Weixin and QQ, Business Wire reported. The company connects millions of people through its digital content and services across China.
