Celanese Corporation has released a worldwide surcharge for partners Amcel, Celcon and Hostaform alongside other polyacetal (POM) products amidst a recent surge in global energy prices.
In a release Oct. 11, the chemical and specialty materials company acknowledged that customers may be affected by this surcharge on polyacetal, an engineered thermoplastic used in high-performance parts. Celanese also expressed the hope that conditions will return to normal without delay.
“The unprecedented instability present throughout the energy markets, that began this summer, recently accelerated, and we have reached the point where Celanese needs to share the burden of the price increases with our customers,” Celanese Vice President of Engineered Materials Juergen Pongratz said in the release. “Although we believe these conditions will persist through the winter, Celanese will continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis and will adjust the surcharge amounts to reflect the then-current conditions.”
The new change will apply to all shipments of POM products beginning on the 25th of this month.
Charges will include €0.50/kg in Europe, $.035/kgin Asia and $.30/kg in America, according to the release.
The Celanese Foundation, based in Dallas, employs approximately 7,700 worldwide with net sales of $5.7 billion as of 2020, the release states.
